Day 3 – Dolphins Ho! (Bass Strait Crossing)

Ahoy there m’laddies, it’s been a rough night and rough day, literally and figuratively! We started off our trip through the Bass Straight around 0300 this morning. This greeted us with huge swells, sunnier weather and, lots wind and water to attack the crew. Wet weather gear became essential as tsunami like waves became frequent over the bow with 3m swells. Fear not though! As we had a breakfast for kings, loaded with mushrooms, bacon and our highlight, some eggs benny. This was followed by Morning Brief where “Salty Sven” enlightened us with the nautical history of the terms “dogs watch” and “dogging the doors”.

Our favourite hour of the day then followed – Happy Hour – where seasickness was revived within a few of the crew, majority of them being from White (aka green) watch. Fortunately, the decks, the masts, the sails, and the crew, (both Staff and Returnee) were saved from wearing the unwanted side effects of seasickness.
All three watches came together throughout the day to set the Forestaysail, Jib and Mainsail. Then very quickly due to the weather, the Jib and Mainsail were furled, waking some watches up to achieve this.

Unfortunately, todays Ropies was cancelled, but this just enhances Red watches chance of winning tomorrow due to our lack of seasickness and increased enthusiasm. Fortunately, we still had the chance to see DOLPHINS!! Very happy now.

Sophie and Courty signing off 😉
