Day 23 – Watch Changes
Hi Everyone,Welcome to day 23 of our voyage. Today was a big day for the Crew of YE as we mixed up the Watches!!. Yes gone are the normal Red, White & Blue Watches, they have now been replaced by Fuchsia, Mother of Pearl and Teal Watches. I certainly didn’t have anything to do with the selection of these names but what this all means is that we have moved a number of the crew around to form new watches. This will happen again in a couple of weeks then everyone will return to their original watches for the final week of the voyage. By doing this we are giving everyone the opportunity to work with each other so that once we reach Rio they can honestly say that they managed to spend time with everyone on the voyage. This change occurred at 1600 today and already the Watch Leaders are putting their new watches through their paces with getting them to rig storm sails, climb the mast and participate in a number of other exercises that will form them into a well bonded team.  The weather here over the past couple of days has not really changed and we are still experiencing light and variable conditions. This has been caused by a large high pressure system which we have managed to stay right in the middle of and at present will remain with it for at least another two days. It is frustrating for all of us but we will just push on and sooner or later those favourable winds will come.  I have just looked up at the Chart Plotter in my cabin and have just noticed that we have just reached 54 degrees latitude which is quite impressive considering that Cape Horn is only a little over 55 degrees. As expected the weather is cold but I think that we are slowly becoming acclimatized  Until Tomorrow, take care  Yours Aye  Captain Gav  “Â

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
