Day 2 Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Ahoy there dear readers,
Day two found us progressing southbound at the back of the racing pack, which had reduced by some 20 yachts overnight. Conditions are obviously challenging but a little easier for us in a 44m steel hulled brigantine. Still quite lumpy though and thus the fish were well fed overnight.
Most of the crew had a difficult night so Kenny the benevolent Sailmaster decreed the day a Sunday Sea routine, which meant that if you were not on watch, the time was your own. Hooray said the crew. There was a bit of tacking and sail setting and furling throughout the day with the aim to proceed south as fast and as comfortably as possible. ie without bashing into the swell.
Jarod did extremely well in the galley preparing a lovely lunch and dinner. Pleasingly there were more diners at dinner as the wind and swell had abated some.
As I write this, the wind and swell has abated further which is nice for a smoother ride but not so nice for our speed. We will continue to motorsail southbound overnight, keeping a weather eye on our sailing brothers and sisters.
Until tomorrow. Keep safe.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
