Day 17 – Large Seas and Moderate Winds

Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 17 of our voyage. Overnight we continued to make good ground to the SE even though the wind continued to moderate to less than 20kts. We are now at 48 degrees latitude and you would expect strong winds and large seas but so far we are getting the large seas and not so much of the strong winds, hopefully the winds will follow.  Tonight Olivia from White Watch volunteered to write the Log so enjoy a day in the life of Olivia onboard STS Young Endeavour.    Until tomorrow, take care  Yours AyeCaptain Gav  VOYAGE 01/15 DAY 17 TUESDAY 6TH JAN 2015  Hey world, another days adventure on STS Young Endeavour and her World Voyage.  Overnight a bit of a change to the normal routine the ships Engineer Lindsey came up and took over RED Watch as watch leader for the Middle or Guts watch. This was done to allow our normal watch leader Taffy to get a whole nights rest and some beauty sleep. Looking at him this morning though it didn’t really work and/or a lot more sleep is required. It didn’t work for White Watch leader Sandy either.  Starting the day with the 4am watch, White Watch were pleasantly surprised by a lovely sunrise and a beautiful sunny day. This was quite a relief from yesterday’s kinda dull weather. At the start of the watch Lauren (one of our watch leaders) and I decided to help our Awesome Masterchef out and bake the bread for the day. It wasn’t the best, but you know practise makes perfect. Then again Aaron didn’t disappoint with another incredible breakfast with the main star being the banana and white chocolate pancakes. Unfortunately we’ve now pretty much run out of fresh fruit which means sadly for us no more scrumptious fresh fruit salad in the mornings.  Again today we had our usual morning brief then “Happy Hour.” Who doesn’t love a good happy hour? Then our incredible Navigator Paige changed our course so it was all hands to tacking stations which gave us something different to do before lunch. As the sun was out it was a good opportunity to just relax and lay in the sun, which many of us decided we would utilise. Then Aaron, along with his two apprentice cheffies, whipped up a nice hot lunch with fresh salads which as always was delicious.  Siesta to 1400, I took this time to nap, then the next round of Rope Races. It’s starting to get competitive now as we’re all starting to get to know the ship a little better. A few harness tugs and loud cheering for the members in your watch, always a good time.White watch is now just peacefully chilling in the sun on the first dog watch steering course 090 at about 8kn, so a lovely afternoon with wind and sun.  It’s nearly time for dinner then into our usual night watches.  Land seems so far away and obviously the homesickness is setting in as I know I’m missing Mum, Dad, Laura and Matthew and I’m sure a lot of the others are missing their loved ones too but this is incredible especially on a day like today, so I know this is the place to be.  Yours Aye Olivia (From the obviously best watch, WHITE)”
