Day 13 – At Fitzroy Harbour, Great Barrier Island
Ahoy there shipmates, Sail Master Matt woke the crew at 0630 for a quick game to get bodies and minds active before breakfast. After Colours, morning brief and Happy Hour staffies put the seaboat in the water and Matt headed over to Lord Nelson, who had anchored near us during the brief, to invite them to participate in today’s hike up to Mount Hobson. Once they had picked-up their Captain, they headed over to Spirit of NZ to meet to coordinate the day’s plan. On the return of the boat we commenced ferrying the crew ashore for the walk. It took an hour to get everyone to the start of the walk, which turned out to be a 5 hour round trip. The crew were well prepared with a packed lunch, water, hats, sunscreen and walking shoes. It was another good opportunity for the crew to spend some more time getting to know their Kiwi brothers and sisters from Spirit and some of the crew of Lord Nelson who joined them also. Dinner was organised to be a BBQ ashore near our anchorage so when the crew returned from the walk there was time to get some warm clothes and then turn around and head back ashore again. Spirit organised a bonfire to provide some light and warmth at the site of the BBQ. It is intended to remain at anchor here again overnight and tomorrow and undertake some more activities with the Kiwis and the Brits. It is likely we will sail from here early am on Thursday, in preparation for entering Auckland Harbour on Friday. Yours Aye Captain Mike

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
