Day 12 – Final Night of Voyage

Hi Everyone,Welcome to day twelve and the final night of our voyage. The Crew were awoken at 0630 this morning for another early Morning Activity which was followed by breakfast and morning brief. At 0820 we weighed anchor then commenced our 8nm transit around to Broome Harbour only to be informed half way there that given the strong conditions our best embarkation point for our Community Day Sail guests was back at our previous anchorage at Cable Beach, so we quickly turned around and headed back.Once back at this anchorage the Great Escape Company commenced ferrying our guests from the Kimberly Individual and Family Support Association and a number of Cadets from the Broome Navy Cadet Unit out to the ship which took just over an hour and delayed the commencement of our day sail.By 1130 we had everyone onboard and following my welcome address and safety brief we weighed anchor and in moderate conditions set sail. During the three hours that followed we enjoyed a very pleasant sail along Cable Beach with our Youth Crew acting as perfect hosts and our guests thoroughly enjoying the whole Young Endeavour experience. At 1430 we returned to our anchorage where we farewelled our guests then the Youth Crew proceeded aloft to put harbour furls on the squares. Once finished they completed end of voyage chats then sat down on deck and witnessed a spectacular Cable Beach sunset while enjoying Chef Jenko’s fantastic pizzas. The time is now 2000 and we have just finished watching a great End of Voyage slide show which gave us the chance to reflect on the great times and amazing places we have visited throughout this voyage. The Youth Crew will now sit down and complete their voyage critiques and letters to themselves which are returned to them six months after completion of the voyage. Whilst this is occurring the Staff Crew will use this time wisely and try and finish our end of voyage administration requirements.Tomorrow morning we will start our day with our final early morning activity followed by breakfast and morning brief. Once these activities are complete we will weigh anchor, transit the 8nm around to Broome Harbour where with the Youth Crew manning the yards we will berth for the final time for this voyage at 1000. Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewells to the Youth Crew of Voyage 16/16 as they depart the ship.On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 16/16 for the great effort that you have put in throughout this voyage, you are a wonderful group of young Australians I wish you all the very best for the future. Young Endeavour will now have a short break in Broome before embarking our next Youth Crew on Monday 3rd October and heading south to Exmouth which will be the eleventh voyage of our 2016 Circumnavigation of Australia. Until Next Voyage, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
