Day 10 – V10/25, Darwin to Darwin

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Day 10 and the final night of our ‘Top End’ voyage. Today has been one of those special days where we have the opportunity to give back to the community, and on board Young Endeavour, we do that by conducting a Community Day Sail for those who would not normally get a chance to sail with Young Endeavour. It is hosted by the Youth Crew, who I can honestly say did a brilliant job of making it a memorable day for our guests, and I’m extremely proud of all of them.

Well, that’s enough from me. I will now hand over to Alanah and Iyla, who have done a wonderful job of writing tonight’s Log.

Until next time, take care.
Captain Gav.

Ahoy There, Family and friends,

Today is Day 10 of our voyage, and there is only one day left!

We spent the majority of the day sailing around the lovely Darwin Harbour for our Community Day Sail, which brings opportunity for those who cannot sail in Young Endeavour to have a taste of what the Young Endeavour is like. We enjoyed teaching the basics of running the ship to our guests from Down Syndrome NT, visiting Victorian Army Cadets, as well as some family and friends of the staff crew.  It was fantastic to be able to share our knowledge and experiences (with no seasickness for a change).

We made sure everyone had a blast and enjoyed learning how to set and furl the sails, including everyone in every way possible. We had great volunteers from our youth crew to help bring up the delicious food our chef, Kingy, had prepared for lunch, which went down a treat. Our guests would agree; sailing is hungry work!

After waving our final goodbyes, the afternoon was brought to a close with End of Voyage Talks. Time was spent with our watch leaders and groups reflecting on the trip as a whole and considering the goals we set, as well as discussing our favourite moments.

As evening begins to set in, we’ve anchored for the night. Some youthies are in the cafe preparing a photo slideshow for tonight, but most are up on the mast, tying gaskets (securing the sails with ropes so they don’t get ruined).

This trip has been a fantastic journey, meeting new friends, learning new things and above all having an awesome time. We are all excited to go home, but sad to leave our new friends behind, as we have shared so much together.

We will be so glad to see you all tomorrow, and for others during the next few days,

With love,
Alanah and Iyla.

P.S.

Shout to my family back home and my dog, Tiger. Miss you all heaps – I.K

To my mum, I miss you so much. I hope Elka will forgive me for leaving her. I have so much to tell you and so many hugs to give. Say hi to Chris and Caylee for me, I miss them too, believe it or not. And mum, you were wrong. I do get seasick. It started on Day 3 and only stopped on Day 7 when I got my sea legs. Love you all so much, miss you heaps,  and I will see you at the Airport tomorrow when I arrive. I have a new hello to show you that I know you will love. – Alanah xoxo <3
