Day 10 – Half Day Sail and Final Night!

Ahoy Shipmates…I’m back! Congrats to Captain Michael and his team on a successful Command Day. After catching up on some sleep, today the Youth Crew awoke to another overcast day (no surprises there). After some Boga (boat yoga), breakfast and a snappy morning brief we departed our anchorage in Double Bay and made our way to Fleet Base East in preparation for embarking our Community Day Sail guests. We then gave the old girl a thorough scrub to ensure she was clean and tidy, and then embarked our guests (Sylvanvale Foundation and others) for a 3 hour cruise around Sydney Harbour with the Youth Crew playing hosts. After farewelling our guests, we made our way to our last anchorage for the voyage in Watsons Bay. It was then time to go ashore for end of voyage debriefs, coffees and a swim, then all returned on board for pizza on the upper decks. The obligatory last night admin followed, after which we all enjoyed a slide show viewed on the upper decks, reflecting on the adventures of the last 11 days. As I write the Youth Crew are completing their voyage pages and will then aim for a good nights sleep as we will be up early to complete harbour furls, ensuring the Young Endeavour is ship shape and ready for the next group of adventurous young Australians to join us. In closing may I say it has been an absolute pleasure having these 22 young folk on board. They have taken their opportunities, faced a variety of challenges, become a close knit team, and I daresay formed firm friendships. Tomorrow at 1000 we will berth at Fleet Base East with the Youth Crew manning the yards, concluding the final voyage of 2018. The Youth Crew of Voyage 20/18 are now part of the Young Endeavour family, and we hope they will come back to visit in the future. Finally to you…Merry Xmas and Happy New Year…stay safe…Captain Kenny…out!
