Day 10 – Final Night of Voyage

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day 10 of our voyage. This morning we awoke fine day with a light south westerly breeze. Following a quick EMA and breakfast the anchor was weighed and we transited the 6nm to Williamstown where we berthed starboard side to Workshop Pier at 0850.

After sullage was landed and the ship cleaned we welcomed onboard, 14 guests from the Shepparton Access Group, the Federal Member for Gellibrand Mr Tim Watts, the Mayor of Hobson’s Bay City Councillor Sandra Wilson, the Executive Director of the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme Mr Stephen Moss and a number of Staff Crew and Youth Scheme guests. Following my welcome address and safety brief lines were cast off at 1000 and the ship departed its berth and proceeded out into Port Phillip Bay where in perfect conditions we enjoyed a fantastic 3hr sail with the Youth Crew being the perfect hosts and demonstrating some of the sailing and climbing skills they have learnt during the past 10 days.

At 1300 we again berthed at Workshop Pier where we farewelled our guests then the Youth Crew proceeded ashore with their respective Watch Leaders to complete end of voyage talks. By 1530 everyone was back onboard and following the final set of rope races and a quick brief the Youth Crew proceeded aloft and completed at good set of harbour furls.

At 1700 we again departed our berth, this time proceeding out into Hobson’s Bay where we came safely to anchor just to the southwest of Station Pier at 1730. Once at anchor we enjoyed a fantastic pizza dinner which was followed by the Youth Crews completion of end of voyage questionnaires and ‘letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew took the opportunity to conduct their end of voyage debrief. To finish the day’s activities we screened the very popular voyage slideshow which gave everyone the opportunity to reflect back on their experiences during the past 10 days.

Tomorrow morning at 0630 we will get up for our final early morning activity which will be followed by breakfast and morning brief. At 0915 we will weigh anchor, man the yards then transit the short distance over to Williamstown where we will berth at Workshop Pier at 1000 for the final time for this voyage.

Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 04/17 as they depart the ship.

On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 04/17 for your efforts throughout this voyage, you are a wonderful group of young Australians and all of the Staff Crew of Young Endeavour have thoroughly enjoyed sailing with you.

Young Endeavour will remain alongside in Williamstown until Tuesday 28 February when we will embark the Youth Crew for Voyage 05/17 and sail to Sydney which will complete our full Circumnavigation of Australia.
Until next voyage, take care

Yours Aye
