Day 10 Final Night of Voyage 15-10

Hi Everyone, YOUNG ENDEAVOUR weighed anchor at 0615 this morning and proceeded under motor to Mackay. The Ship berthed Starboard side to the Mackay Marina at 0900 were we off loaded 10 days of garbage then embarked some fresh provisions for our Half Day Sail guests. At 1000 we welcomed twenty three guests onboard, including members of Kaylan Youth Services, 12 Air Force Cadets from 106 Squadron and representatives from Mackay Council and Mackay Sunrise Rotary. At 1015 the lines were cast off and we proceeded out of the Marina were engines were shut down and the ship brought under fore and aft sail. During the 2.5 hours that followed the Youth Crew did a great job of keeping our guests entertained and everyone enjoyed a fantastic day in perfect sailing conditions. By 1300 we were again back alongside our berth at the Mackay Marina and once we had farewelled our guests the Youth Crew proceeded aloft to complete harbour furls. At 1600 we again departed the berth and proceeded out to anchor in the lea of Flat Top Island. Whilst conducting this transit the Youth Crew sat down with their Watch Leaders and undertook end of voyage talks. This evening we enjoyed our last teak deck BBQ’ for the voyage which was followed by an upper deck photographic slide show which allowed us to reflect on the great times we have had over the past 10 days (thanks Meg for putting this slide show together) . To complete the evenings activities the Youth Crew completed end of voyage’ questionnaires and letters to themselves, which will be returned to them in 6 months time.Tomorrow morning we will depart our anchorage and berth alongside the Mackay Marina at 1000 for the final time for this voyage. Once alongside we will invite family and guests onboard for a tour of the ship then I will conduct a brief ceremony and award Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 15/10. On completion of this ceremony we will say our emotional farewells. This is the final Captains Log for this voyage. Young Endeavour will remain alongside in Mackay until Tuesday 31 August when we will embark our new Youth Crew for Voyage 16/10 which is from Mackay Brisbane. On a personnel note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 15/10 for the effort that you put in throughout this voyage. You are a great group of young Australians and all of the Staff Crew of YOUNG ENDEAVOUR have thoroughly enjoyed spending the past 10 days with all of you. Prior to the Ship sailing for Brisbane I will hand it back to the fulltime Captain LCDR Damien Munchenberg. It has been fantastic being back onboard and I look forward to returning again in November for the Adelaide Devonport (Tasmania) voyage when Damien will take another well deserved break. Until then, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
