Day 10 – Final Night of Voyage

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day ten of our voyage. The Youth Crew awoke to a warm Melbourne morning with temperatures throughout the day forecast to be in the low 30’s.
Following breakfast and morning brief everyone was given the opportunity to take another quick swim and demonstrate their skills on the rope swing before being ferried ashore to Rye were they enjoyed some beach games which were run by our two Supernumerary’s Zak and Abbie. Once completed, they were given some free time to browse through the local shops or enjoy another swim at the Beach.
By 1115 everyone was back onboard and following lunch the anchor was weighed and we commenced our 30nm pilotage down to the north of Port Phillip Bay to our anchorage in Port Melbourne’s Dobson’s Bay.
During this passage we completed End of Voyage Chats and the final round of rope races. At 1600 we safely anchored in Dobson’s Bay then the Youth Crew proceeded aloft to put Harbour Furls on all three squares.
This evening we enjoyed a pizza dinner, SOD’s Opera and finally a slide show of photographs taken throughout the voyage. The rest of the evening was spent with the Youth Crew completing end of voyage questionnaires and “letters to themselvesâ€, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion.
Whilst the Youth Crew were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew took the opportunity to conduct the ‘end of voyage’ debriefs.
At 0900 tomorrow morning Young Endeavour will depart her anchorage at Dobson’s Bay and transit the short distance across to Williamstown where we will berth for the last time for this voyage at Workshop Pier at 1000 were we hope to be met by a large group of family, friends and other spectators.
Once our guests have had a tour of the ship I will give my final address to the Youth Crew of Voyage 04-16 then present them with Certificates of Achievements. Once completed, we will say our final sad goodbyes then the Youth Crew of Voyage 04-16 will depart the ship.
This ends the Captains Logs for this voyage. Young Endeavour will remain alongside in Williamstown until Monday 07 March when we will embark the Youth Crew of Voyage 05-16 who will sail the ship from Williamstown to Sydney.
Until then, take Care
Yours Aye
Captain Gav

Ahoy followers of our Young Endeavour journey! Command Day. We made it.
The beautiful weather at our anchor point at Jervis Bay made for a spectacular day under the command of our fellow Youth Crew! A morning stretch and some wise words from the Ship Crew gave Captain Waz and the team a step in the right direction.
With the new watches all set and ready to go, Captain’s Setting and Furling gave all our youthies the chance to prove their abilities on the high seas. Strong performances from all three watches; Sharkies, Chompers and Narwhals!!
Morning brief gave the Sailmaster a chance to give us the daily orders and help get everyone on the same page. With the staff crew getting ready for a holiday and giving us the ship, floral shirts and party music filled the deck and, with some final preparations, the ship was ours.
The Captain was given a small but very significant envelope that contained the essential, non-essential and completely optional tasks to be done over the course of the next 24 hours. 2 tacks were to be made at a minimum before leaving the bay and safety checks were the essential tasks to start our journey. However.
More amusing, optional tasks allowed some of our youthies to become part of the “Beach Assault Team” while others were put to the task of making a slideshow of the voyage, tying all the knots on the list, etc. These were some activities that bided the time for our incredible navigator - Ruscoe to set out a plan and work together with the Sailmaster - Hugh to create a sail plan.
Tacking stations were the focus for our late afternoon, preparing to weigh anchor and leave such a beautiful bay, for our last stretch of this incredible voyage.
Happy Birthday to the Capitan, Warwick, who turned 24 today! The wonderful MasterChef’s created a “cherry ripe” cake out of rice crispies, coconut, chocolate, and love. With a beautiful ceremony to end our day.
Sailing into the night leaves us the ability to see the lights from our destination. Sydney, here we come!
Wish us luck! From Nat and Tom!!
