Day 10 – Badger Head Anchorage

Ahoy there everyone, A well deserved nights rest at anchor was had by all. I guarantee everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day. The day began as forecast with heavy rain and 30+ knot winds as the ship lay rolling at anchor. During the day various team orientated activities were conducted including watching the 1929 classic black and white movie Around Cape Horn documenting a young man adventure on the last great cargo tall ships. During the afternoon the Youth Crew conducted end of voyage talks while the rain continued to stream down. After consuming our BBQ dinner below decks the Youth Crew presented a slide show capturing various selected moments and experiences during the voyage. This enabled everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 10 days and their amazing once in a life time journey. The rest of the evening was spent with the Youth Crew completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. The ship will remain at anchor overnight before weighing anchor at 0730 and conducting the two hour transit to Devonport where we will berth at 1000 with our accomplished young adventurers manning the yards for the final time. It has been a magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten. The ship will remain in Devonport until Saturday 15 January 2011 when she will embark the next Youth Crew for Voyage 02/11, Devonport to Geelong. Until then it has been an honour and privilege to sail with the Youth and Staff Crew of Voyage 01/11. I wish them all the best for their future endeavours. Carpe DiemYours ayeCaptain Damien

Dear readers,
STS Young Endeavour is, by the definition and origin of her name, about Aussie youths trying hard to achieve something difficult. This voyage certainly provided that... and then some. A challenging experience from all angles and areas. Yet the Youth Crew prevailed and found success. They should therefore be justifiably proud of themselves for persevering, seeing the silver lining and never wavering in their mission to have a great adventure. I am very proud of all of them and I'm sure you are too!
9 Days ago 23 Youth Crew from all over Australia, came together to sail this vessel, have fun and challenge themselves. They have not only done that, but have faced and overcome fears, and learnt a lot about themselves and each other.
They leave with new skills, improved persistence, resilience and adaptability, as well as generally knowing they are more capable than what they probably thought. And of course, having made great new friends - most probably, friends for life. It never gets old for us staff members, as we truly love our work.
Fair winds and following seas.
