Day 1 – First Night At Sea…Hello Green Goblin!

Ahoy Shipmates, and welcome to voyage 19/18…the penultimate for 2018. And a fun trip it promises to be with lots going on…awesome! Under sunny skies we embarked out intrepid adventurers alongside Queens Wharf in Newcastle, and after friends and family had taken quick tours of the ship, we commenced our welcome/farewell ceremony. Welcome to the Youth Crew, farewell to family. After our guests had disembarked, the intention had been to sail immediately however one of our Youth Crew had been delayed, finally arriving at 1600. With Lewis safely onboard we then cast off lines, manoeuvred to recover our sea boat, and then made for the open ocean. To ensure she had a captive audience, safety guru Karly gave the safety brief before we hit the open waters. It was then time for more detailed ships tours, ice breakers, some sail setting (staff) and dinner. Unfortunately once we hit open waters the dreaded Green Goblin reared it’s ugly head…with a number of the Youth Crew making donations to Poseidon! Sailmaster Guv gave his brief on some of the do’s and don’ts for the voyage, Engineer Horto talked about toilets, showers and all things mechanical, and I spoke about the trip and the challenges they would face, encouraging them to give everything a go…ensuring they leave without regrets. As I type we are off the Central Coast making our way south to Patonga Beach in Broken Bay…a lovely little spot. That’s about it for now…until tomorrow…fair winds…Captain Kenny
