Day 1 – Ahoy there!
Ahoy there shipmates, landlubbers and armchair sailors, it was great to meet the lovely youth crew of Voyage 14/21 today at HMAS Waterhen on Sydney’s North Shore, comprising 17 Aussie youth, from all over NSW. They embarked at 1500 and after welcome and introductions we slipped and proceeded downstream, under the Harbour Bridge, past the lovely opera house and then up to Hunters Bay, Mosman where the ship came to anchor. During the transit Youth Crew members were split into red, white and blue watches and their Watch Leaders took the opportunity to conduct some ice breaker activities and ships tours. By the way, let me introduce our skilled and experienced staff crew for this voyage: Sail Master – Tori. Navigator – Emma. BOATSO – Evan. Red Watch Leader – Dan. White Watch Leader – Bobby. Blue Watch Leader – TJ. Chef – Keely. Engineer – Reggie. Second Engineer – Shaun. Once at anchor a lovely dinner was served, then we had a wee chat about voyage principles and what to expect… well Tori and I spoke about that, Reggie spoke of engines and plumbing and ships husbandry. Tori spoke to them about youth crew responsibilities and a few ‘guidelines’ to ensure communal harmony and unconditional positive regard for all. I spoke to them about what to expect over the next 10.5 days (time’s already ticking!) and ways to ensure maximum involvement in the program. Challenge yourself, give everything a go and leave with no regrets, was the message. Youth crew then split into watches and commenced their seamanship training, consisting of line handling, safety and general principles. It’s going to be a big day tomorrow, and so our wonderful young crew turned in for a good nights sleep. Intention is to remain at anchor overnight, conducting first climbs in the forenoon and departing for sea after lunch. The adventure has begun… It’s going to be a fantastic voyage, I can feel it in my (salt) waters ;). Good night and stay safe. Captain Adam Charlie Farley+

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
