Day 09 – V11/25, Darwin to Broome

Day Nine of this amazing expedition and journey of self discovery!! We motor-sailed through the night due to the wind having dropped to light and variable conditions; our Youth Crew awoke to witness passage into the incredible Yampi Sound with the sunrise on our backs. We anchored at 1012H and immediately rolled into ship cleaning stations – don’t be fooled by the name “Happy Hour” – as this morning was rife with covert attempts to advance in the ongoing game of Silent Assassin… it was a perilous time indeed!

In the afternoon, staff members launched the boats then started to ferry the Youthies to our next shore visit – Crocodile Creek. Where both ships staff and Youthies spent the afternoon relaxing and celebrating the wonderful weather. Some snorkelled amidst jellyfish while others took turns diving off high rocks, we have quite a few thrill seekers on board!

After returning to the ship the Youthies had some break time before Captain Leups briefed the crew on the conduct of Command Day. We paused for dinner, which was prepared by our amazing Steve with the assistance of today’s master chefs, crispy pork belly with steamed vegetables and chips!! Dinner was abuzz with excitement, nervousness, and even a few pitches for various candidacies as our elections were to follow once the dishes were done! With that momentum and some help from Meg and Ash to count the votes, we rolled into a quick-fire election and declared our command team for tomorrow.

Congratulations to our Captain Toby, Sailmaster Lilith, Navigator Jocelyn, and Watch Officer Harvey! For watch leaders, we have Lewis, Andrew, and Hannah, and our three Master Chefs are Matilda, Hayden, and Keira. We look forward to tasting all that you whip up together in the galley! And we can’t forget the powder monkey – Kingsley!!

To end the day, the crew set up a movie night to close out a tumultuous evening, as we head into anchor watches and go to sleep mentally preparing for the day ahead tomorrow.

So long for now,

Your fellow youthies, Isabella and Tikai
