Day 08 – V17/25, Adelaide – Geelong
Welcome to the Captain’s Log for Wednesday 01 October – Day 8 of Voyage 17/25, Adelaide to Geelong. Thank you to Lyss and Charlotte for writing tonight’s log:
After a long night for all watches, setting and furling different sails, all youthies felt the pressure of upcoming command day as we were assessed during Captains Setting and Furling. Each watch took turns to set and furl different sails without their watch leader, testing their ability to run the ship without the help of Staffies. All watches passed, starting the day with a good energy. Our challenge took us straight to lunch. A delicious sausage feast with pastries and salad bar. A solid feeding before more challenges to come.
Next, the happiest time of the day – happy hour. Except it wasn’t a happy day for the boys in the port side 6-person bunk, who left all of their dirty clothes on the floor, and is now ready to be auctioned off tomorrow morning.
Youthies made their way to the top deck after lunch as a collective; this time to work together to set and furl sails, without the help of their watch leaders. Our make-shift callers, Charlotte and Will, projected different commands to their crew, wearing the ship through the wind. After this, we had 14 youthies climb the foremast and mainmast. What an effort! The rest of the day was pretty chill, we had a command day brief, and played games as a youth group. We shared dinner together, having good chats and many laughs.
Now, to be serious. Command day elections. Our command day, a day where youthies take complete control of the ship, as well as Staff positions, commences tomorrow at 10am. We elected Will D as our Captain, Sail master to Rye, Watch Officer to Will S, Navigator to Ethan, our three Watch Leaders, Charlotte, Noa, and Cesare, and finally, the most important role, our chefs, Caitlin, Tom and Aidan. Everyone understands their positions and is confident in having a good day. Wish us luck! See you soon.
Charlotte – Happy Birthday for tomorrow Ruby. Would have loved to wish you that tomorrow, but I’ll be busy as a watch leader (yay). So lucky to call you my sister. See you soon.
Lyss – Anchored at Port Phillip Bay & getting ready for a busy day tomorrow that we now know as Command Day. It may be stressful at times, but we will work together to make the journey run smoothly, Excited to be reunited with my family again after an eleven-day journey.
Until tomorrow evening.
Yours, aye,
Captain Mike and his able-bodied crew
