Day 08 – V13/25, Exmouth to Fremantle
How are ye’ scallywags? This morn we’ve had some beautiful weather, with glistening water and skies clear of cloud as we pass by Wallaby Island on our onward journey to Fremantle.
Our Navigator, CYCLONE JACK, told a saga about the ill-fated crew of Batavia, who were shipwrecked upon the reefs of Wallaby Island and embraced their mutiny against their old Captain. Jack left us on an agonising cliffhanger and the SALTY SEADOG (Sarah) swept in with a swashbuckling description of why the ship’s toilets are called the ‘heads’ (it was quite gross).
Our mateys have had amazing encounters with the local wildlife, from a pod of Bottle-nose dolphins swimming along the port side to Humpback whales breaching meters from the bow spirit!
Our voyage has been highlighted by the amazing views, getting to know the other Youthies, developing new skills, and taking on more leadership roles.
We must make an honourable mention to the ONE and ONLY Chef Kingy, for his amazing food. And for when seasickness made things hard to keep down, SAO’s crackers have saved the day, although many a crew have succumbed to addiction to the unassuming SAO’s and need to be cured. (Lyss, Kamden, Maria, it isn’t too late to stop.)
As a bonus round to Mark’s infamous rope races, we took part in a very serious game of egg throwing. Unfortunately, the win was stolen away by White Watch team due to Watch Leader Sarah winning a Mooing competition (it is exactly what it sounds like.)
When the sun sets and the moon starts to rise, we get a sky full of colour and the moon reflects a radiant glow across the ocean.
Shelbs and Tilda OUT.
