Day 06 – V11/25, Darwin to Broome

Today started nice and early from us Whiteys on watch from the wee hours of the morning keeping the ship on its path, with a bit of motivation from the wonderful banana and chocolate muffins that us Youthies had baked. After easing into the day, Captain Leups gave us a run down on the history of sailing and the ins and outs of how it all works. Did you know sailing first was invented in ancient Egypt around 6000 years ago!… It’s incredible how far we’ve come!

After some cracking lunch from our wonderful chef Steve we had enough energy to spring into rope races, the second set for the voyage. With spirits high we cheered on our fellow youthies as they raced to find the right lines that correlated to the sail. Thanks to our practice over the last few days, we were able to identify the ropes quicker than last time, with white watch making a comeback!

BUT there was a bonus round! Zooper Doopers for all the youthies, a competition on which group could down their ice cold treats the quickest. Up the Blueys for taking the win on this challenge…we will get you next time!

To end the day youthies came together to enjoy the sunset that the beautiful sky and ocean had provided us. Whiteys climbed the course yard sail to enjoy the view from up high while blueys were vibing out on the bowsprit listening to their tunes as the sun deepened into the horizon.

Currently, with the wind behind us we are well on our way to set anchor tomorrow morning filled with another day of thrilling activities and fun.

6 days down, 7 to go! See you soon Broome.
From your whiteys Keira and Isabella

P.S. for all the future youthies coming on board the current time to beat is 25 minutes for furling and setting 3 fore-and-aft sails. Best of luck!
