Day 01 – V11/25, Darwin to Broome

Ahoy! Its Captain Leups and I’m back to share in a wild adventure across the top of the North West of Australia. Voyage 11: Darwin to Broome promises to be filled with stunning country, sensational sailing and a true adventure of a lifetime for us all.
Our intrepid travellers joined us from HMAS Coonawarra via a sea boat transfer arranged by the Royal Australian Navy Port Services office. All went smoothly and we had 24 Youth Crew and a large number of family, loved ones and friends join us for the Welcoming Ceremony. The first day of any voyage is always exciting as nerves, adrenaline and anticipation hang in the air. I welcomed our arrivals and then our Sail Master, Sarah, promptly disembarked all Non-Youth Crew visitors as we had important voyage business to get on with! See you all in Broome in 13 days time!
Icebreakers, ship tours and a delicious dinner prepared by Chefo Steve (affectionately known as “Big Sauce”) warmed us up for our first night of climbing the mast. The evening was perfect with a cool breeze and a starry sky helping to calm the nerves as our climbers all made their way over 30m into the sky and back down again over the next few hours.
We finished up before midnight and our crew gratefully headed to bed for their first nights sleep onboard their new home.
For those in Darwin looking to capture our departure – we will be weighing anchor and heading for the deep blue at 1300IK tomorrow. Be sure to tag us if you get any good photos!
Stay tuned to share in this adventure,
