Darling Harbour to Watsons Bay Anchorage
Young Endeavour commenced V09/17, her first Voyage since commencing a maintenance period on 24 Apr 17. Included in the maintenance period was the installation of new main engines, the laying of a new teak foredeck and a new coat of paint on the Ship’s side. The Ship departed Fleet Base East at 1300 to transit to Darling Harbour to pick up the Youth Crew. Staff for the voyage are: Captain – Mike, Sailmaster – Adam, Navigator – Harry, Watch Officer – Kyle, Chef – Keely, Engineer – Brett assisted by Allan, White Watch Leader – Megan, Blue WL – Evan, Red WL – Loz, with assistant Brendon. Additional staff include Mel, a Navy medic, and Carly (birthday girl today) who is doing a Suitability voyage to become a staff member. We berthed at the Maritime Museum at 1400 and commenced embarking youth crew and families and friends at 1500. Once youth crew had dropped their bags on their bunks we gathered at midships for a welcoming speech followed by farewells to families and friends. We departed Darling Harbour at 1600 and proceeded to anchor in Watsons Bay for the night. Ship familiarisations, Deck Safety and chats from myself, Sailmaster Adam and Engineer Brett kept youth crew busy, either side of Keely’s first spectacular dinner of the voyage. The youthies’ busy first day ended at 2200 and no doubt they will sleep well with the Ship gently rocking at anchor.Until tomorrow.Yours aye, Captain Mike

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
