Commencement of Voyage 15-14
Hi Everyone, Welcome to Young Endeavour’s Voyage 15/14. This is our last youth development voyage of the year and our first voyage following an extensive 21 week refit. Our journey will start and finish in the magnificent harbour city of Sydney. We have a magnificent tall ship, wind for our sails and the picturesque NSW coast to explore. The potential is limitless and sense of adventure is infectious. I would like to introduce the Team of Staff Crew that will facilitate this voyage of adventure: The YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows: Captain – Gav Sail Master – Adam Navigator – Miquela BOATSO – Jarrod Red Watch Leader – Paul White Watch Leader – Dougy Blue Watch Leader – Jordo Chef – Adrian Engineer – Horto Doctor Tenille The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour alongside at Fleet Base East Berth 5a. Once all gear had been stowed everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled a large gathering of family, friends and sponsors then commenced our program. Normally at this time we would depart our berth but due to need to fit an engine part I decided to remain alongside until this repair was complete Whilst this repair was occurring the Watch Leaders conducted a number of getting to know you ‘ice breaker activities’ which was followed by ships tours. Dinner followed, with our new Chef Adrian producing a fantastic meal. Tonight’s menu consisting of grilled chicken, pasta bake, and satay and rice, which was followed by a desert of apple crumble, custard and fresh fruit. By the time we had finished dinner our repairs were complete so at 1900 lines were cast-off and we conducted a nice manoeuvre out of Fleet Base then transited the short 1.5nm across the harbour over to Athol Bay coming safely to anchor at 1940. Once at anchor the Youth Crew were mustered at midships (middle of the ship) and I conducted my Captains chat which was followed by Sail Master Adams brief on voyage expectations, and safety requirements for the next 11 days. On completion the Watch Leaders again took over and conducted deck safety training which will be followed by the completion of ‘full value contracts’ By 2230 this evening we should have completed all of today’s program then a weary Youth Crew can enjoy a short 90 second shower prior to turning in and getting a well deserved good nights rest on their first night onboard Young Endeavour. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
