Wallaby Reef

Hi Everyone, Welcome to Day 6 of the voyage. By 0800 this morning Young Endeavour was located 5nm to the west of Wallaby Reef sailing under fore and aft sails on a starboard reach. Given the favourable conditions straight after morning brief we went straight into demonstrational tacks. This activity gives all of the Youth Crew the opportunity to witness the process of tacking the ship from the bridge as well as giving me a chance to explain the unique handling characteristics of the ship. On completion of this activity all sail was handed in, main engines started, and we motored the final 2nm to our anchorage at Wallaby Reef, coming safely to anchor at 1130. That afternoon we separated all of watches and formed them into new teams so that they could complete an initiative exercise which involved dropping an egg from the lower top to the deck without breaking it. During the planning phase of this exercise each of the teams were separately ferried to Wallaby Reef to enjoy 40 minutes of snorkelling. By 1530 the last team was back onboard and following a short 23rd Birthday celebration (including cake) for Youth crew member Rhys Yerbury we held the final of the egg drop’ exercise (only one egg survived). This evening following another one of Chef Chad’s amazing dinners we weighed anchor and departed Wallaby Reef under main engines. Once in open water the ship was again brought under sail and a new course shaped for Cape Upstart, which is planned to be our final anchorage before the commencement of Command Day. Overnight all of the watches will complete the BEAREX (teambuilding, communication and initiative exercise) and continue to prepare themselves for the fast approaching Command Day.Please find attached Captain log entry from Youth Crew Member Sarita. Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav Ahoy there landlubbersWe’re already past half way through our voyage, and it has been absolutely amazing, the most wonderful thing I have ever done. Within the first couple of days we had climbed aloft, seen whales and dolphins, and were already starting to work as a great team. Today we anchored near Wallaby Reef and went for a snorkel, as well as other activities and the daily routines like watches, Happy Hour and morning brief. All of us have learned heaps and now the focus is on getting our heads around everything we need to know for command day, when we, the youth crew, will take charge_ Much love to those I left on land Sarita, on the Young Endeavour, where love is always on the menu and the broad horizon is always there for us
