DAY 10 HALF DAY SAIL
Ahoy there everyone,A well deserved nights rest at anchor was had by all. I guarantee everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day. The ship weighed anchor at 0630 departing Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island and made best speed under engines to Townsville where the ship berthed alongside the commercial port at 1000 and embarked our half day sail guests from Stanton Lodge.Once welcomes were complete the ship departed the wharf at 1100 and proceeded out of the port into Cleveland Bay, to set the fore and main staysails and topsail in very light conditions. This enabled the guests to observe the recently acquired deck work and singing prowess of the Youth Crew. The ship then returned alongside Townsville at 1300 where the half day sail guests were farewelled. After a short break the Youth Crew lay aloft on the yards to put harbour furls on all the square sails. Once complete we sailed from our berth and proceeded to our overnight anchorage at Gregory Bay, Magnetic Island for our last night together on Young Endeavour with a ‘teak deck BBQ’, song and slide show on the upper deck capturing various moments and experiences during the voyage. This gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 10 days and their amazing once in a life time journey. The rest of the evening was spent with the Youth Crew completing end of voyage questionnaires and “letters to themselves”, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion.Tomorrow morning, Young Endeavour will weigh anchor, transit the short distance to Townsville with her yards fully manned, with our accomplished young adventurers. Berthing once again at Townsville where we will say our final farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 14/10. It has been a magnificent journey and one not to be forgotten. The ship will remain in Townsville until Thursday 19th August 2010 when she will embark the next Youth Crew for Voyage 15-10, Townsville to Mackay.Until then it has been an honour and privilege to sail with the Youth and Staff Crew of Voyage 14/10. I wish them all the best for their future endeavours.Yours AyeCaptain DamienÂ

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
