COMMAND DAY PART 1
Ahoy Shipmates,Command Day commenced at 1300 this afternoon with the handing over of the “Telescope of Challange” to the Youth Crew of Voyage 16-08. One of the many tasks to be completed during the next 24 hours is for the YC to write the Captain Log for tonight and tomorrow, so please find attached the first nights entry from Captain Robbo.Until tomorrow, take careYours AyeCaptain GavCOMMAND DAY CAPTAINS LOG VOYAGE 16-08Day 8:The last 7 days of sailing have been in preparation for this day, command day. Where the Youth Crew have been given complete control of the ship. Positions (captains, sail masters, watch officers, navigators etc) were elected last night while at anchor in Noland Bay, Tasmania. We were told we would not be given the keys and all tasks and objectives until 1300 on day 8. A good night sleep was a hot tip from Captain Gav.With much hesitation and curiosity we started Day 8 off with a disco in the staff mess. Youth crew and staff dressed up in their most crazy clothes and danced to raging music and flashing emergency beacons! After that rope races were held midships, had another delicious lunch from our wonderful chef Ange. Keys to the ship, along with our objectives and tasks for the Youth Crew to achieve in the next 24 hrs were handed to the newly elected Captains!! Yay! From there our navigators Maddie and Nalani, went straight to work plotting our course, while all 24 crew climbed the Foremast for a photo and achieved one of our objectives before even setting sail! With the predicted winds to be in our favour we were anticipating reasonably easy sailing. But, as luck would have it, the wind didn’t, and still hasn’t come!We had a successful sail from anchor at 1700 with approximately nine knots of wind however this quickly dropped down to around four knots and we slowly drifted/sailed towards the shore. We are now under engine power but are hoping the wind will pick up even just a little bit! We will hand over the ship at 0100 to the Captain for the second half of our 24 hrs, Captain Sarah.Keep an eye out tomorrow for an update, but until then,Cheerio!Captain Robbo.Â

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
