At Anchor Wineglass Bay
Hi Everyone, During the early hours of this morning we rounded Tasman Island and in moderating conditions commenced our passage up the East Coast of Tasmania. By morning brief we were located 9nm to the south east of Maria Island sailing under a reduced sail plan and enjoying the improved conditions. Following morning brief and cleaning stations I closed the ship up at tacking stations and the Youth Crew conducted two very good tacks which proved that they had hoisted in’ the previous 24hrs of intensive sail training. On completion of these tacks we shaped a course for the Freycinet Peninsular and Wineglass Bay which we had previously picked as our anchorage for tonight. As the day progressed we continued with the training program, first with Adam the Navigators informative presentation on the scientific art of navigation, followed by Taff’s interactive lesson on Rules of the Road. By the time both of these presentations were complete we were only 2nm from the entry to Wineglass Bay, so all sail was handed in and we proceeded to anchor just of the beach in this spectacular Bay. Once safely at anchor we all enjoyed a swim which was followed by an enjoyable BBQ dinner (cooked by yours truly). To complete the evening we conducted a session of three way talks (public speaking and getting to know you exercise) followed by an anchorage brief given by our Navigator Adam. The time is now 2130 and everyone has just turned in for a well deserved good nights rest.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain GavFrom Chad to his lovely Daughter Dakota:Dearest Dakota, Happy 9th Birthday! Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
