AT ANCHOR TRIAL BAY

Hi Everyone,During the early hours of this morning the wind unexpectedly freshened from the north west so the ship was brought hard onto the wind and a full press of fore and aft sails set. By morning brief we were located 5nm to the east of Trial Bay and given the favourable conditions I decided to complete a set of rotational tacks and a ‘Man Overboard Exercise’ (only using a lifebuoy) prior to proceeding to anchor. With both these activities successfully completed Young Endeavour entered Trial Bay and came safely to her planned anchorage at 1130. Once at anchor both boats were launched and the Youth Crew ferried ashore where they enjoyed setting foot on “terra firma” for the first time since departing Newcastle. While ashore they were given the opportunity to tour the historic Trial Bay Jail, enjoy a swim in the crystal clear water then complete the 2km beach walk around to the township of South West Rocks were we had organised a rendezvous with the ships boats for their return journey to the ship. This evening with everyone safely onboard we enjoyed our first “Teak Deck BBQ” for the voyage (cooked by yours truly) followed by a very entertaining set of three way talks (communication and public speaking exercise), which completed the days activities. As this is our first night at anchor since departing Newcastle, all watches have now been reduced to anchor watches for the night which will give both the Youth Crew and Staff the opportunity to get a good nights sleep, ensuring that everyone will be well rested for the busy days ahead.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
