At Anchor in Jervis Bay

Hi Everyone,                      By sunrise this morning we were located 15nm to the south of Jervis Bay sailing under a reduced sail plan in strong south easterly conditions. Rather than the normal morning routine of morning brief we started the morning with Captains Setting and Furling Drills. These drills are normally the final training activity prior to the commencement of Command Day and ensure that all watches can safely set and furl all sails.Once completed, we entered Jervis Bay and went straight into a very good set of Demonstrational Tacks. These tacks give the Youth Crew the opportunity to come to the bridge where I talk them through how we tack and wear then give a practical demonstration of this manoeuvre. With this activity complete we conducted two more tacks which got us down to the south of the bay where we handed in all sail and proceeded to anchor just off the picturesque Green Patch at 1200 where we were well sheltered from these persistently strong SSE winds.Once at anchor lunch was served then the Youth Crew were stood down for an hour so that they could have a short rest following a sleepless night for most of us onboard.Later this afternoon we ferried everyone ashore where they enjoyed some beach sports and for some of the more energetic a hike around to HMAS Crewswell. This evening with everyone safely back onboard we enjoyed our first Teak Deck BBQ for the voyage which was followed by the Command Day Brief and Command Day elections. These elections are now complete and the Youth Crew have decided that they would like to watch a movie up on our big screen under the stars before settling into their anchor watches for the night.Until tomorrow, take care. Yours AyeCaptain Gav
