Anchored At Rye

Ahoy Shipmates, Overnight we continued to make good speed and at 0830 this morning Young Endeavour sailed through the Rip (entry to Port Phillip Bay) making an impressive entry into Port Phillip Bay. On entering the bay we set more sail and proceeded up the southern channel towards Capel Sound. During this passage I conducted Captains setting and furling drills and on completion of this activity all sail was handed in and we exited the channel and proceeded straight to our planned anchorage position just of the township of Rye, which is located on the Mornington Peninsular. As it was one of those very hot Victorian days it was decided to rig the rope swing from the course yard and open the pool (jump over the side) so that everyone could have a refreshing swim prior to lunch. Early afternoon saw us ferry all of the YC ashore to Rye were they enjoyed their first taste of civilisation since departing Devonport. As you can imagine all of the local fast food, coffee and ice cream shops reported doing a roaring trade. By late afternoon we had ferried everyone back onboard to enjoy another swim prior to a teak deck BBQ, professionally cooked by Sumo the Engineer. After a very enjoyable dinner and spectacular sunset I presented my Command Day brief which was immediately followed by the YC Command and Command team selections. By 2130 these selections were complete and after a short question period with Staff, the YC settled into anchor watches for the night and a well deserved rest in preparation for the commencement of tomorrows Command Day.Tomorrow morning at 1000 I will hand Young Endeavour over to the Youth Crew of Voyage 17-08.Until Tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
