All at sea
Ahoy Shipmates, At 0630 (this morning) all hands were piped on deck for their first early morning activity (EMA) session and team building activity in the anchorage at Corio Bay near Geelong. After breakfast the YC conducted the age old naval ceremony of Colours (raising the National Flag in the bow and the Australian White Ensign at the stern) and sang the National Anthem. Morning brief followed, with special presentations from the Navigator, Engineer and Chef. At 1000 we weighed anchor and commenced the long pilotage out of Port Phillip Bay. During the pilotage the YC were kept busy with Happy Hour’ (cleaning stations) followed by an in depth safety brief, training in line-handling, deck safety drills and finally sail setting and furling drills. We transited the Rip to clear Port Philip at 1630 and once in open water the ship was sent to tacking stations. This activity confirmed that the YC have absorbed their training and are able to turn the ship through the wind during the first night at sea and whenever required. In very light conditions the YC completed three successful tacks, signifying the end of the intense instruction of the first 24 hours. On completion of tacking stations it was time for dinner and our chef Mac produced another memorable meal. The Youth Crew have now settled into their watches for this evening and are currently experiencing their first full night at sea. Until tomorrow, fair winds and following seas to you all. Yours AyeCaptain Matt

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
