Day Five – At Anchor Twofold Bay
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to day five of our voyage. As forecast the wind moderated this morning but the 2m swell remained. Despite these conditions there was a noticeable improvement in the health of the Youth Crew at morning brief and their spirits lifted even more when we announced that we would be anchoring in Twofold Bay early this afternoon.
Given the improved conditions we conducted a quick set of cleaning stations (Happy Hour) then Guv the Sail Master gave a quick brief on how to set the squares followed by a practical demonstration of setting the topsail. This worked extremely well as we had now altered course to the NNE and it was a perfect wind angle for this sail and a lead into my presentation on sail theory. Whilst this was occurring we rounded Green Cape then shaped a direct course for Twofold Bay.
Early this afternoon we handed in sail and entered the confines Twofold where we came safely to anchor just off the Eden breakwater at 1400. Once at anchor the Youth Crew were ferried ashore and taken up to the Eden Whale Museum where they were kindly given a free tour of this interesting local attraction. Once completed they adjourned to local cafes where they conducted mid voyage chats then were given some free time to stretch their legs and browse through the local shops.
By 1800 everyone was back onboard where we all enjoyed one of Young Endeavours legendary Teak deck BBQ’s. Once we had cleaned up from dinner Evan the Navigator gave a brief on keeping the ship safe at anchor and to complete the evening’s activities we are now screening on our upper deck movie screen the classic Tall Ship movie ‘Around Cape Horn’.
Once the movie is finished we will settle into anchor watches overnight ensuring that everyone gets a good nights rest.
Tomorrow morning we will depart Twofold Bay taking advantage of the forecasted strong southerlies as we continue our passage along the NSW South Coast.
Until tomorrow evening, take care.
Yours Aye
Captain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
