DEPARTED SOUTHAMPTON

Hi Everyone, Welcome to day two of our voyage. Despite our late start yesterday we still managed to get two of the watches through their first climbs last night and ended up getting everyone to bed by 2330. Despite this late finish it was still an early start this morning with Kenny (Sail Master) waking everyone at 0630 and getting them up on deck for an early morning activity. Breakfast followed with most opting for Chefs Marcos’s specialty of the day being the classic ‘Big Young Endeavour Breakfast’ (eggs, bacon, sausages baked beans and toast). At 0800 everyone mustered on the port side of the bridge where they were introduced to the tradition of Colours (raise flags and sing National Anthem) then for White Watch it was straight into their climb the foremast. Whilst this was occurring, the other two watches spent time with their Watch Leaders doing some deck safety. By 1000 White Watch had successfully completed their climb which meant that all three watches had now successfully climbed the foremast which is a great achievement. Happy Hour (cleaning stations) and lunch followed then preparations made for our departure. At 1300 lines were cast off and in overcast and blustery conditions Young Endeavour quietly departed her berth and preceded out of Southampton’s Empress Dock were we commenced our pilotage out of the Solent. During this pilotage the World Voyagers were given an extensive safety brief by Taffy our Safety Equipment Specialist then it was straight into sail setting and furling drills with their Watch Leaders. By 1530 we were clear of the Solent and had safely entered the English Channel where we were greeted by 25-30kt winds and a 2m swell. On passing SPITHEAD and the Isle of Wight the engines were shut down, the main staysail and topsail set and we commenced our passage to London. The time is now 2030 and following an extremely busy day our World Voyagers have now settled into their watches for the night. Currently we are located 35nm to the east of the Isle of Wight sailing downwind under a reduced sail plan. The conditions are due to moderate overnight so hopefully we may get some warmer weather tomorrow. Until tomorrow, take care. Yours Aye Captain Gav
