Day 1 At Anchor Magnetic Island
Hi Everyone, Its LCDR Gavin Dawe (Captain Gav) making a short return to the ship for Voyage 15/10 so that Captain Damien can take a well deserved rest. This voyage will see us spend the next 11 days sailing from Townsville to Mackay and along the way experiencing the Inner Great Barrier Reef and the spectacular Whitsunday Islands. The YOUNG ENDEAVOUR Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:Captain GavSail Master DutchyNavigator Kenny BOATSO Joel Red Watch Leader Penny White Watch Leader AdamBlue Watch Leader SnowyChef ChadEngineers – Leon The voyage commenced at 1500 today with the Ship berthed alongside at Berth 8 at the Port of Townsville. By 1540 all of the new Youth Crew had arrived safely onboard and once gear had been stowed, everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. On completion of this address we farewelled a small number of family and friends then made preparations to set sail. At 1605, we cast-off lines, departed our berth, then completed a short passage over to Magnetic Island were we anchored in Geoffrey Bay, which was our planned anchorage for this evening. During this transit the Watch Leaders conducted a number of ice breaker activities’ which was followed by ships tours. Dinner followed, with Chef Chad again amazing us with his culinary skills. Once we had cleaned up from dinner, I had a bit of chat to the Youth Crew about what their voyage would entail and my expectations over the next eleven days. On completion, Dutchy, as Sail Master gave his talk about some of the rules, regulations and safety aspects of Young Endeavour before giving a safety aloft brief and demonstration on how to climb the foremast. Once he had finished this demonstration I inverted all of the Youth Crew in their harnesses, which is our final safety check prior to commencing our first climbs. With some minor nerves every member of the Youth Crew is currently undertaking their first climb to the topgallant yard (highest yard). This climb will complete today’s activities and once the last member of the crew is safely back on deck everyone will turn in for the night and get some much needed sleep following an extremely busy day. Tomorrow we will depart Magnetic Island and commence our passage south to the Whitsunday’s Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
