Perfect Conditions
Ahoy Shipmates,This morning saw everyone awake and on deck at 0630 for an early morning swim. Despite the weather still being overcast with the occasional shower most braved the conditions to enjoy the clear and refreshing water of Nelson’s Bay. After morning brief and Happy Hour we had a visit from our local meteorologist LCDR Paige Butcher who kindly agreed to join us for the morning to present one of her informative and entertaining meteorology lectures. This was followed by a Rule of the Road presentation, lunch and finally the Captains sail theory lecture. At 1330 LCDR Butcher was ferried ashore and the ships boat recovered. YE weighed anchor at 1400 and departed Port Stephens under main engines. Once in open water all fore and aft sails were set and we altered course to the south under a light south easterly breeze. As the afternoon progressed the wind freshened and backed to the east which allowed us to set the topgallant, topsail and finally the new gaff topsail, having us sailing perfectly balanced under full plain sail on a port beam reach. As we made good speed to the south we were joined by a pod of about 20 enthusiastic dolphins who much to the enjoyment of everyone onboard decided to entertain us for the next 30 minutes. Following dinner everyone was back on deck to enjoy the perfect sailing conditions and to witness a spectacular sunset. All of the YC have now overcome their previous bouts of seasickness and are working exceptionally well together. We have now settled into our watches for tonight and are making good speed south towards our next anchorage, which will be in Jervis Bay Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
