Final Night Of Voyage 01/09

Ahoy Shipmates, This morning was fine and clear and following colours and a short morning brief the YC were turned to at cleaning stations in preparation for receiving our guests for the half day sail. The anchor was weighed at 0830 and the ship completed the short passage to Georgetown were she berthed for the first time at 0900 at the recently completed York Cove Marina. After sullage was landed and stores embarked 25 guests from Disability Services of Tasmania and some Staff Crew guests were welcomed onboard. Our departure time for the voyage was delayed by 15 minutes due to the late arrival of the Southern Cross film crew who wanted to conduct interviews and film the departure of the ship. The lines were finally cast off at 1030 and the ship departed her berth and proceeded out of York Cove and out into the Tamar River. In pleasant conditions Young Endeavour and her guests enjoyed a perfect morning’s sail down river through the picturesque Tamar Valley before turning around to make our return journey to York Cove. Throughout the half day sail, the Youth Crew acted as perfect hosts, serving food, refreshments and entertaining our guests with a repertoire of their favourite YE songs. At 1230 all sail was handed in and we returned to our berth at York Cove Marina, berthing at 1300. Once our guests were farewelled, harbour furls were completed and stores for the next voyage embarked. Due to the strong north westerly blowing us onto the berth it was decided to remain alongside overnight rather than attempt a departure in very difficult conditions. Late afternoon saw the Watch Leaders complete end of voyage talks which was followed by an enjoyable BBQ held on the pontoons of the marina. Once we had cleaned up from the BBQ the YC and Staff conducted a theatrical and entertaining ship’s concert. The rest of the evening will be spent with YC completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each YC member six months after voyage completion. Overnight all watches will enjoy their last anchor watch together before completing their voyage tomorrow when we will again sail early in the morning returning alongside to York Cove Marina at 1000 were YOUNG ENDEAVOUR will berth for the final time for this voyage. This ends another memorable voyage for the Youth Crew and Staff of STS Young Endeavour. Our next voyage commences on Saturday 17 January and will be from Georgetown to Melbourne were we will participate in the Melbourne Australia Day celebrations.Until next voyage, take careYours AyeCaptain Gav
