Groundhog Day
Ahoy there Shipmates,We awoke this morning with the same light sou’easter as yesterday which necessitated us to motorsail throughout the night. Nonetheless the further we leave Tasmania astern it seems to be getting warmer. Thank goodness! We motorsailed throughout the forenoon and enjoyed the morning not so’ brief, happy hour, a round of rope races and a spell bounding session on the Rules of the Road by the salty sea dog himself, Chook Barry. Very pleasingly, by lunch time the breeze had picked up a few knots enabling us to shut down the engines. We made good use of the good sailing conditions and we conducted a series of rotational tacks in the afternoon including an attempt of a box haul’ manoeuvre which didn’t quite work out the way this Captain had hoped for. I also dazzled the Youth Crew with a lecture on sail theory which had some of the YC concentrating so hard they had their eyes closed. We sailed for the next six hours or so until Dave the navigator pleaded for engines as our SOA to reach Eden by Sunday afternoon continued to creep higher. We’re well into Bass Strait now and beam reaching in light to moderate conditions under a full spread of canvas (albeit with the engines running ahead) making about 9 kts. We plan to anchor in Twofold Bay tomorrow afternoon and hopefully in time to get the YC ashore to the delights of Eden.Teagan, one of the YC, didn’t get to my Valentines message special yesterday and here are her words:Hey Mum, Kyal, Mason, Brittany, Tara, Joanne, Steve, Tiffany, Rebecca, Emily, Nicholas, David, Karen, Madison, Taylor and Chad. Hope all is well fam missing you heaps! Tara hope you’re having a great time! Other fam, can’t wait to see you all! Love heapsTeagan (Blue Steel)That’s all for now readers. Tomorrow I will start having a member of the YC write up the log so you will have an alternate perspective of life at sea in Young Endeavour.Yours ayeAndrew Gunna’ RourkeCarpe Diem

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
