Voyage 08/09 Commences

Hi Everyone, Welcome to the commencement of Voyage 08-09 from Mackay to Airlie Beach and the fourth leg of YOUNG ENDEAVOURS 2009 Circumnavigation of Australia. Today’s voyage began with a warm welcome to the new Youth Crew and a number of family and friends at the Mackay Marina, which is situated about 10km from the city of Mackay. Following my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions we farewelled our guests and immediately commenced our training program with a set of ice breakers’ and Ship tours. On completion of these activities it was time for dinner and once again Chef Jarod impressed everyone with his amazing culinary skills. Following dinner it was straight into Captain and Sail Master talks followed by climbing safety briefs. At the moment all watches are attempting their first climb of the foremast and it is hoped that by late this evening all of the YC will have achieved their first goal of climbing to the topgallant yard (highest yard). Once the YC have completed this climb the training program for today will be complete and everyone will turn in for their first night onboard YE.Due to a mechanical fault with one of our generators I have decided to remain alongside at the Marina for the night so that this problem can be rectified. This mechanical issue should not affect the voyage or training program. Finally, a big thank you to CMDR Dave Jordon who did a fantastic job as the relief Captain for the last voyage. Thanks to Dave I managed to fly back to Sydney and enjoy some time with my family. Until tomorrow take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
