COMMAND DAY (PART 2)

Hi Everyone,Please find attached the second edition of the Youth Crews Command Day.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain GavCAPTAIN’S LOG 19/10 MONDAY 20.53Hello again all,It’s Cass here. I have to, unfortunately, start on a not so positive note.I have handed Captaincy back to the rightful owner, Capt Gav as our command day closed at 10.00 this morning. Sigh. But with the bad news always comes the good; we, as command crew, were 100 PERCENT SUCCESSFUL in our mission to sail our Young Endeavour down approximately 170 nautical miles of ocean and anchor her safely (i.e- without running anything over and with all crew remaining on board) in the waters off Rottnest Island. We reached our final waypoint at approximately 8am this morning, having completed a full night of navigational and sailing challenges. Admittedly, it was an interesting night, with some difficulties arising when it came to direction and the late discovery that two tankers were anchored directly in our line. A minor panic from myself, Matt our Sailmaster and our ever capable Navigator Beth ensued before we remembered that we may be able to “just go ’round”. In hindsight, not so scary.Got to say that the leadership through the ranks has been incredible, with everyone contributing and playing key roles as well as continuing to have an absolute ball. There are too many people to name everyone who has achieved brilliance; all of our youth crew have amazed and inspired each other at some point.Tomorrow we face our last challenge; taking on the training ship Leewin in an all or nothing battle to the death. We’ll race around a predetermined course, and without counting chickens, our name’s on the trophy already. Ha. No, not quite yet. But we’re all very excited and are thrilled to be a part of such a great event. Cross your fingers and toes…!This is my last chance to get on here and speak (write) on behalf of our crew so We’d just like to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to our wonderful Young Endeavour staff members, guidance counsellors, friends and Pirates in crime Gav, Paul, Adam, Kenny, Josh, Taffy, Dutchy, Chad and Jessi Baby. You have been absolutely fantastic. Thank you also to the behind the scenes organisational crew- we can’t name you but we’re reaping the benefits of your work. This voyage has surpassed all our expectations. Thank you.I’ll sign off now as I need some rest; drawn the “dish pig” card for tomorrow’s duty which means 5am start From Captain to Dishy. Nice.Wish us luck for tomorrow!Love to all at home.Captain CassP.S- If anyone has seen Matt C’s young endeavour shirt, please shout out as he is desperately searching. Cheers.Hello again!Squeezing in a quick note before knocking off Early start tomorrow morning (0330) and should probably already be in bed but with the constant watches around the clock and the setting and furling of sails during the day you seem to learn to survive on little sleep. Are already in Freo, a day early and hopefully you’ll read this or have heard about our race with the Leewin tomorrow and be there cheering us on. It will all be very exciting. I never would have imagined 10 days ago I’d even know half the stuff I’ve learnt let alone be assisting in the ships sailing. Can’t go on much longer but again lots of love to you all and will see you very soon. Lara. xoxHi Everyone! Love you all and will see you soon! Not long now has gone too quickly Well hope you’re all happy and well and have a bit of sunshine by now! Love Em xxHey first time writing on this so I’ll keep it short and sweet! I just want to give a quick shout out to my dad, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be having the experience of a lifetime! You’re the best, I’m never going to forget this and I’m a little bit closer to making a decision about joining the Navy Love DK xoxo
