AT ANCHOR, AIRLIE BEACH
YOUNG ENDEAVOUR embarked 24 excited and fresh faces this afternoon at Hamilton Island, Queensland. The “liquid sunshine” was falling from the sky as we prepared to depart the marina and proceed to our anchorage, however the wet weather hasn’t appeared to dampen their enthusiasm. The staff crew welcomed our new friends, and quickly prepared to sail. This voyage sees the return of some old faces, and the crew are: Captain Phil, Sailing Master Suzie, Navigator Whips, Watch Officer, Ian, Watch Leaders Pete, Hibbo and Sumo, Engineer Lindsay and Chef Chad. We also have onboard Ian (Pommy) who is on exchange from the UK for two voyages, and he brings a wealth of sail training experience with him also. After sailing the youth crew quickly participated in ice-breaker exercises aimed at introducing everyone, and also explored the ship during a ship’s tour. After an amazing dinner from Chef Chad, we came to anchor. Captain Phil and Sailing Master Suzie explained the outline of the voyage and a few housekeeping rules before the exciting phase of the evening commenced the first climb. It is with great pleasure that I can announce that all of the youth crew made an amazing effort to reach to Top Gallant sail in the inclement weather. The challenge involved climbing the fore mast – and several remarked how the mast didn’t seem so tall when looking from the deck, but once you were up there they were surprised (perhaps more correctly horrified) at how high it felt and how small the ship looked from their new vantage point! The youth crew will have a well deserved rest tonight, before ‘learning the ropes’ tomorrow morning as we get underway and commence sailing around the magical Whitsunday Islands.Yours AyePhil GadenLieutenant, RANRQUOTEWhen the morning’s freshness has been replaced by the weariness of mid-day, when the leg muscles quiver under the strain, the climb seems endless, and, suddenly, nothing will go quite as you wish – it is then that you must not hesitate.Dag Hammarskjold

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
