Perseverence, Imagination and Diligence

Situation at 21:00- The Youth Crew stood on in command of the Ship overnight. At 05:45 wakey wakey was piped in preparation for an early start withthe Beach Assault Team. At 07:00, four members of the Youth Crew rowed ashore onto Balmoral Beach and under the YOUNG ENDEAVOUR house flag, claimed the area in the name of the youth of Australia. They convinced 16 local residents to join them in singing the national anthem, which was radioed live back to the remainder of the Ship’s Comapany onboard. At 09:00 command day concluded with a small ceremony where the symbol of authority, the telescope, was turned back over to Captain John. The Youth Crew had successfully sailed the Ship and achieved as many of the tasks set out for them as possible.Throughout the day they put into place both the sailing and organisational skills necessary to work within a team setting toachieve a complex task. They are to be congratulated for their perseverance, imagination and diligence. The final round of rope races was won by Red Watch. They will have the honour of manning the T’Gallant yard when the Ship berthsfor the final time of the voyage tomorrow afternoon. Next on the agenda was harbour furling the square sails. This is done in order to protect the sails from the elements between voyages. At 12:15 we weighed anchor and proceeded alongside Garden Island, arriving there at 13:00. The afternoon was spent debriefing the Youth Crew on theircommand day experience. This is a very important phase of command day. It involves critically analysing the day and looking forways of transferring positive attributes into the Youth Crew’s future lives. This may be a renewed determination to succeed at something, or a willingness to take on a new challenge. The evening was spent completing administrative tasks such as the voyage critique.Overnight the Youth Crew will remain in sea watches, which will give them an extended opportunity to exchange contact detailsand say goodbye to one another. Tommorrow YOUNG ENDEAVOUR will be the launch platform for national youth week, and the Ship will host the Federal Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, as well as numerous other dignitaries and celebrities.
