Day 1 – V13/26, Brisbane to Sydney
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another exciting voyage with Young Endeavour. As you know, our last voyage took us from Sydney to Brisbane and this one will take us back to Sydney which is fine by us as we love sailing this stretch of the Australian Coast and are super excited to have a new Youth Crew onboard to experience this adventure with us. As normal, we have put together another great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew, ensuring that they all have a wonderful experience.

The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour berthed at Dockside Marina, which is at Kangaroo Point and very close to Story Bridge. Once we had everyone on board and gear stowed, we mustered our new Youth Crew with a large group of family and friends up on deck where I gave my welcome address followed by Staff Crew introductions. On completion, we farewelled family and friends then got straight into a safety brief. At 1605, we departed our berth and commenced our long pilotage down the Brisbane River and out into Moreton Baying. During this passage, the Watch Leaders conducted some ‘Ice Breaker’ activities and Ships Tours.
Dinner followed, with tonight’s menu featuring roast lamb, gourmet sausages, and a wonderful chicken dish I could not pronounce, all served with vegetables or salad and followed by a wonderful selection of desserts. After cleaning up, I delivered my Captain’s Brief, followed by Dion’s Sail Master chat. With those briefings complete, we then went into a comprehensive demonstration on the use of the Ships safety equipment before coming safely to anchor at Moreton Islands, Tangalooma at 2040. Once at anchor Sam gave the harness brief then the Watch Leaders spent time with their watches completing Full Value Contracts which was the final activity for the day. After a busy start to the voyage, we are now ready to turn-in for a good night’s sleep.
Tomorrow morning, we plan to conduct our first climbs of the foremast before departing our anchorage and commencing the 3hr pilotage out of Moreton Bay.

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Day 8 and Command Day. It really has been a great start to spring with the Youth Crew waking to a spectacular Broken Bay morning. A trip ashore to Patonga and a hike up to the lookout was a great way to spend the morning before being handed Command of the Ship at 1400. From there they have pressed on and completed several tasks before getting underway later this evening. That’s enough from me I will now hand over to the Youthies to tell you all about their day.

G’day everyone, welcome to day 8 of our Young Endeavour journey! We are still nestled in the beautiful Patonga Bay where we left you last night. We were awoken today at 0630 for a little team wake up with a couple small dances to learn. From there we had a fabulous breakfast from Young Endeavour’s one and only, Vinnie!
We departed Young Endeavour around 0930 to head ashore and explore the magnificent Patonga of which one of our fellow Youthies is a local. Because of this Sophie lead us on the Patonga to Pearl Beach bush walk in the Brisbane Waters National Park. Whilst rocky and steep at times, the view certainly made up for it when we reached the lookout and could see our marvellous tall ship sitting calmly in the bay.
Fortunately for us Vinnie set up a small sandwich bar after morning chow to ensure we had some lunch for when we arrived at that gorgeous view. After munching on our lunch and taking advantage of the view, we all took the opportunity to get some excellent photos with the ship in the background before heading back down.
Once we did reach sea level again, (a couple wet pairs of shoes later) we got involved in another team building activity. This activity involving the whole youthie crew pulling back on a rope in a circle whilst 3 members of the team walked around the circle. By pulling hard enough on the rope, we managed to keep it tight enough so that none of our mates fell to the ground.
On the conclusion of this we were treated with the opportunity to get ourselves a small bite to eat and a cold beverage from a local restaurant. Some even opted for the generously priced $3 sorbet. I personally would never turn down the opportunity for an ice-cold Pepsi max. Today was no exception.
When we got back on board around 1200, it was time for us Youthies to ask any final questions of the staff before being handed control of the ship for the spectacular Command Day!
With (most) people freshly showered, the control of the ship was handed over to the very people who, only 7 days prior, stepped onto a tall ship for the first time. Through a series of democratic voting, we congratulate our new Captain, Darcy, Sail Master, Charlie, Navigator, Sophie, Watch Officer, Cooper, Watch Leaders, Addi (Red), Henry (White), and Maddie (Blue), and Master Chef’s Juliet, Miranda, and Tahunna!
With our hardy Command Crew elected, along with the rest of our eager sailors, we got to our miscellaneous tasks, briefs and challenges on our beautiful ship. We weighed anchor at approximately 1930, starting to make our way out of our peaceful anchorage in Broken Bay, with a full night of sailing expected ahead.
Expecting to make anchor around 0900 in Little Manly, our Youthies commence their overnight watches. The quiet hum of engines and fans lulling others to sleep. Wish us all the best; our Command Day is under way.

Welcome to Day 7 of our Voyage. Well, it has only taken seven days but finally the wind gods smiled upon us and the winds came from the north which allowed us to sail gracefully into Broken Bay and anchor just off the picturesque town of Patonga. It has been another busy day so I will hand over to the Youthies to tell you all about it.

Hayo there salty sailors!! Todays wake up call was an interesting interpretation of the circle of life by blue watch, who also got to experience a lovely pocket full of sunshine over the horizon this morning. The exquisite cuisine of Vinnies delicious, breakfast food, including apple cinnamon pancakes, fluffy eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and many more options. As usual we then make our way up to the deck for morning brief where we were greeting by a waving whale. Happy Hour was next on the roster with a quick song and clean through all the cabins. Our navi-guru Bryn then took to the deck with an intense navigation 2.0 and metrology where we learnt some tips and tricks to help us on Command Day.
We then tested ourselves with a worthwhile climb up the foremast, shout out to Jordan who faced her fears and went all the way UP TO THE TOOPPP of the topgallant platform, you did amazing. And to Miranda facing her great fear of heights as well, sitting out on the course yard, with her watch finally getting a photo. YIIPPPEE!! Cheers and support from the rest of the Young Endeavour Youthies on the bow sprit.
We then had some fun terrorising the Staff Crew with just a few bananas, and learning more about our crew. Round 3 of Rope Races got underway with team blue taking the lead by one point. A bonus round was introduced were we had to line up in our watches, and all chug a zuper duper one by one, first team to finish won. The event finished with just a few brains freezes and a few tears of happiness.
At that point we were slowly making our way to the majestic, Broken Bay – fun fact, a filming location of Home and Away, don’t know about you but I’m feeling like a celebrity. Before anchoring we encountered Captain Gav’s Setting and Furling test to make sure we were all being safe ready to TAKE OVER THE SHIP FOR COMMAND DAY. Don’t worry we all passed, absolute professionals.
Finally, after a long-needed rest, the sun started to set and the Youth Crew munched down Vinnies smashing satay chicken, and lamb with some yummy potatoes and veggies of course, followed by deserts of fruit and ice-cream - shoutout to Laila and her smashing ice-cream tub Sunday. The youth crew gathered at the bow sprit for music and dancing with a lot of photos, as we watched the beautiful sunset full of smiles and laughter.
We then conclude the night voting for who we thought best suited all the roles on the ship for tomorrow’s Command Day. Using a democratic voting system the roles are as follows:

Welcome Day 6 of our Voyage. Again, it has been a busy day for us achieving Mid Voyage Chats, Demonstrational Tacks and setting and furling a number of sails as the conditions continue to change. We are making good speed down the NSW Coast and hope to anchor in Broken Bay late tomorrow afternoon. That’s enough from me I will now handover to Tamiela, Cooper and Tahunna who have done a wonderful job of writing tonight’s Log.

Hey everyone,
Today we started our morning nestled in the beautiful Trial Bay. We awoke at 0630 for our early morning activity, and a striking sunrise followed by a delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon and eggs, and a plethora of fruits.
Not long after, we weighed anchor and set sail South, heading towards our next anchorage of Broken Bay. As we started to head off, we had our morning brief before commencing our daily happy hour, where we swiftly made the ship tip-top and ready for the day.
After an amazing lunch put together by our incredible, and hardworking chef, Vinnie, we jumped into round 3 of rope races. Unfortunately, today the Reddies took the win, but don’t fret, the mighty Bluey’s are still on top.
We also looked over our goals that we set at the beginning of this adventure, and took the opportunity, and some time to reflect, and expand on these original goals. As a part of Blue Watch, we all thoroughly enjoyed sharing our progress and celebrating together.
The Youthies put in a shift today working on our tacking of the ship and further developing our skills of setting and furling as we approached the much anticipated Command Day.
To everyone at home, we all miss you and can’t wait to see you on Friday!!
