Voyage 9-10 Commences
Hi Everyone, Welcome to Voyage 9-10 which is from Newcastle to Brisbane. Over the next 4 months Young Endeavour will be completing her 2010 Northern Program were we will sail as far north as Cairns visiting, Newcastle, Brisbane, Bundaberg, Mackay, Airlie Beach and Townsville prior to returning to Sydney on the 25 September. At each port we will embark a new Youth Crew of between 24 and 27 young Australians who will spend 11 days with us sailing this magnificent Ship. The Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:Captain GavSail Master AdamNavigator DutchyBOATSO KennyRed Watch Leader Penny assisted by JoelWhite Watch Leader Phil assisted by TugBlue watch Leader SnoweyChef ChadEngineer – JoshAdditional – Damien Today’s voyage began at Queens Wharf Newcastle with a warm welcome to the Youth Crew and a large gathering of family and friends who had come onboard to farewell the Ship. Despite a number of showers we managed to keep everyone dry and the formalities of our departure short. By 1545 our farewells were complete, so lines were cast off and the ship departed her berth and proceeded down the harbour to berth at Forgacs Shipyard. Normally we would go to anchor on our first night of the voyage but as Newcastle Harbour does not have a recognised anchorage for ships of our size I decided to utilize another berth instead. Once alongside all watches completed ice breaker’ activities followed by Ships tours. On completion of tours and dinner the Sail Master and I conducted our individual welcome briefs and then went straight into safety aloft and first night climbs. The time is now 2330 and I am happy to report that all of the Youth Crew have successfully achieved climbing to the topgallant yard (highest yard). The completion of this climb ends our training program for today and now means that a weary Youth Crew and Staff can now turn in’ for a well deserved good night’s rest. Until Tomorrow, Take Care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
