Voyage 06/2016

G’day shipmates,

Welcome to Young Endeavour’s Voyage 6 for 2016. Our journey starts and finishes back in the beautiful Harbour City of Sydney. We have a magnificent tall ship, wind for our sails and the NSW Coast explore. The potential is limitless and sense of adventure is infectious. I would like to introduce the Team of Staff Crew that will facilitate this voyage of adventure:

Captain – Mike
Sail Master – Matt
Navigator – Kyle
Watch Officer – Marty
Red Watch Leader – Paul
White Watch Leader – Charlie
Blue Watch Leader – Jess
Chef – Jenko
Engineer – Sumo
Super – Cam

Voyage 6 officially commenced at 1500 today when the Youth Crew and their families and friends were welcomed onboard to have a quick look around the Ship and meet the Staff Crew before we sailed from the Australian National Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, and anchored in Watsons Bay to commence the afternoon’s activities. The Youth Crew divided into their watches and undertook a few ‘ice-breaker’ activities to get to know one another. That was followed by a detailed tour of the Ship conducted by the Watch Leaders.

Dinner followed, with Chef Jenko amazing us with his excellent culinary skills. Once we had cleaned up from dinner, I had a bit of chat to the Youth Crew about what their voyage would entail during the next eleven days. On completion, Matt, as Sail Master, gave his talk during which he discussed the code of conduct, some general points on safety and living in close-quarters with other people.

Generally we would then give the Climbing Safety Brief and undertake the first-night climb, during which the Youth Crew would climb to the Top Gallant Yard, spend some time getting used to working on the yard and then climb back down to the deck. Unfortunately the heavy passing showers made this impractical so this has been postponed until tomorrow forenoon, when hopefully the weather will be more conducive to the conduct of this activity.

I am very pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew has done extremely well on their first day and I am from the outset impressed with both their individual efforts and team attitude.

Tuesday at mid morning we plan to depart Sydney Harbour and shape a course to the North, making ground towards Port Stephens.

Until Monday evening, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Mike
