Voyage 05-20 Underway

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Young Endeavour’s fifth voyage for 2020. This voyage will see us sail from Geelong to Melbourne which is isn’t that far but to make it interesting we are going to head out and explore Bass Strait which is one of my favourite places to go sailing (some would say I’m a little crazy but I love this stretch of water). Along the way we will be challenged but will get to visit some spectacular places. We have put together another great Staff Crew for this voyage who I know will take great care of our new Youth Crew ensuring that they all have an amazing experience.

The Young Endeavour Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:

Captain – Gav
Sail Master – Ivanka
Navigator – Gemma
Watch Officer – Jerome
Red Watch Leader – Sumo
White Watch Leader – Keithy
Blue Watch Leader – Phoebe
Chef – Adam
Engineer – Ben

The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour berthed alongside The Royal Geelong Yacht Clubs new Safe Harbour Wave Attenuator (We had the honour of being the first ship allowed to berth there) but because it isn’t quite fully completed we had to ferry everyone out to the ship. Once we had everyone on board and gear had been stowed, we mustered our new Youth Crew and family and friends on deck for my welcome address followed by Staff Crew introductions. On completion we farewelled family and friends then got straight into a safety brief. At 1620 we departed our berth and transited the short distance out into Corio Bay where we came safely to anchor at 1645. Ice breaker’ activities and ship tours followed then it was time for dinner with tonight’s menu consisting of chicken kiev, ravioli, numerous vegetables and a wonderful selection of deserts. Once we had cleaned up from dinner I completed my Captain’s Brief which was followed by Ivanka’s Sail Master Chat. With these chats out of the way it was straight into harness briefs and first climbs of the foremast.

The time is now 2150 and everyone is safely down from the mast. It has been an action packed start to the voyage which will continue tomorrow so it is time for all of us to get some well-deserved sleep.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours aye,

Captain Gav
