Day 6 – Tacking Stations

Howdy folks!

Youthies Lill and Jay (Gen) here with the day 6 Captain’s Log. Despite being at sea all day in choppy conditions, there was minimal seasickness and plenty to do and see. We started the day with a jog around the ship and a game of pattern matching cards to wake our brains up (shout out to Tom, the winner,) then a delectable breakfast by Jarod.

We were quickly put to work with tacking stations and some youthies including Jay, climbed aloft to let out the square sails. After testing our skills and knowledge in swapping tacking stations, we all came together and enjoyed another culinary masterpiece by Jarod. Our lunch was interrupted by a very excited Emma, our sailmaster, who announced that a Navy Chopper was close by and offered to come around for a fly by! Soon we all watched as the chopper flew over our starboard side and circled us around, and even gave us a lil’ wave! We were soon greeted with a second fly by a few hours later, and we all watched as we entered the Danger Zone thanks to our fabulous DJ Evan.

The youthies all had sailing briefs by Captain Mike and as we approach the 7th day of our voyage, we’re all anticipating command day and looking forward to pushing ourselves beyond our limits once again. Happy (cleaning) Hour was enjoyed by all as the ship was serenaded by some very professional theatre experts (us).

Shout-out to my mum, Cristine, you’ll be glad to hear I almost had to have weetbix for breakfast but was saved by cereal. I’ve been plundering for booty and slaying the seven seas (white watch slays) I can’t wait to walk the plank home and see you all J

Also shout-out to my family, especially my grandma Leonie who I’m sure has been keeping up with the journey <3 I thought this experience would be a treasure but it turns out the real treasure has been the friends I’ve made along the way.

See you all soon,

Lill and Jay
