Day 7 – Sea to Hungry Beach, Broken Bay
Happy floral Friday !!
The ship woke up this morning outside the famous Summer Bay (Palm Beach), to Blue watch’s rendition of a sea shanty. After another delicious breakfast the watches under went Captain’s setting and furling validation. Watches were assessed on their ability to safely set and furl various sails. Every watch passed with flying colours!
After a long 48 hours, everyones favourite morning segment ‘Chewing the fat with Matt’ returned. He enlightened us on 3 different nautical cat facts. Our resident navigator also educated us about tombolos aka a sand bank on land. After the morning brief our second favourite segment of the morning commenced. Wooo !! its happy hour !! (happy half hour).
Continuing the good vibes we headed to mid ships and battled it out in another round of ropies. We found ourselves running after rhino horns, monkeys fists and chugging zooper doopers, with white watch playing their joker card bringing them to second place. Red still in the lead 🙂 Blues trying their best. With the weather finally in our favour we spontaneously headed to Hungry Beach where we got in teams and played King Karacticus and sung televison jingles. Collectively we also built a life size zen garden. On our way back to the ship Matt gave us a tour of the artwork some of the youthies projected onto the ship.
With command day right around the corner, Captain Adam Charlie Farley briefed us on the requirements expected on command day. With anticipation in the air, youthies ‘calmly discussed’ the roles and potential candidates for command day. After our bbq on deck, we promptly did a blind vote and elected our new roles as follows *drum roll please*
Captain – Declan
Sail Master – Luke
Watch officer – Sam
Watch leaders – Jai, Charley and Ava
Navigators – Iain and Jasmine
Chefs – Abbey, Miette and Freddy
The rest of the VIP’s are currently being split up into 3 new watches 😮
Wrapping up the night we got comfy on the fenders with popcorn in hand and watched an inspirational doco about Cape Horn and a tall ship called Peking. Over triple the size of Young Endeavour, it really put our journey into perspective… It humbled us a lot.
We shall remain at anchor overnight and launch into Command Day at 1000 tomorrow. How exciting!

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
