Day 9 – V07/25, Gladstone to Cairns

We rose well before the light underneath the clear night sky and Milky Way whilst on our adventure from Dunk Island to Cairns, as strong winds altered our initial plans and all crew were required on deck. This was the second half of our 24hr Command Day which required rope burn, sweat and salty tears to get us through our most challenging but rewarding experience yet. We are all so proud of successfully navigating through the sea and the emotions whipped up along such an exhilarating voyage.
As the Youth Crew wrapped up their day of sailing upon seeing the harbour, we heard word from Navy Ship ADV Cape Otway that they were on route to alter course for a sail-by with Young Endeavour. We showed her off in all her glory, setting all practical sails and cheering ship on the upper decks.
Once the anchor was successfully dropped in Cairns we celebrate our sailing hardships and reflected on the journey, memories and friendships made along the way with deck games trivia and a BBQ. We are all looking forward to a calmer night with well-deserved sleep.
