Day 8 – V07/25, Gladstone to Cairns

A big day on STS Young Endeavour. The long awaited Command Day, where all the youthies gain full control of the ship for 24 hours. However, our day started completely normal. In fact, at 0630 we were woken up from our sleep to do another round of Ubuntu! Youthies clinched another victory. After our amazing breakfast from Chef Kingy, we hopped onto morning brief and heard from Nav, Salty and Captain Tomo. After singing the obligatory Happy Hour Song we quickly rushed down to clean and secure the ship for the day ahead. At 1300 control of the ship was handed over to the newly elected Youth Crew Command team and their crew. The Staffies rushed off to go on their well deserved holiday and left us in charge of this amazing ship.

That’s when the planning began. Every member of the Youth Crew jumped into their work and we got together a really sound plan for the 24 hours that we have the ship. Soon though it was all hands on deck and in the galley to get everyone through dinner and prepare the ship to weigh anchor. The ship was ready by 1930, and with a little help from the staffies, we sailed away from anchor and started our journey to Cairns.

All the crew are excited and loving every minute!

Signing off,

Captain Kobi
