Day 6 – V07/25, Gladstone to Cairns

While the Blueies watched the sun rise on their Morning Watch, the Redies and Whities woke to the beautiful sound of ‘Staying Alive’. Quickly, the yummy smell of pancakes flooded the youthies’ noses, helping them get out of bed. The youthies taken by sea sickness dreaded the thought of another choppy day at sea with very little sleep. At 0900, the morning brief was held where Chucky informed all Youth Crew that we had a day of rest to ourselves after happy hour! Even Grandma Salty made an appearance, teaching us youngins all about her wise nautical knowledge. After the morning brief, the youthies quickly cracked into happy hour, which becomes quicker and quicker each day.
Some youthies took this opportunity to do some clothes washing, to catch up on sleep and enjoy time with their fellow shipmates. During the day, all watches had to keep a close eye on the ship to make sure it was safe and sailing in the right direction. Late afternoon, we sailed to the North of Great Palm Island and the staffies laid the anchor for the night. Soon after, Sumo led another set of Rope Races where the blueies kept their winning streak alive with the whities and reddies close behind.
The marvellous chef Kingy cooked up some Beef brisket and Jamaican pork for dinner, leaving all youthies very satisfied. Following this, four lucky youthies got to climb aloft to the topsail to gasket one of the square sails. Well done Ava, Kara, Zoe and Sylvie. On the deck, some of the crew got creative with chalk and created a masterpiece at midships. To finish the night off, all watches broke into their groups for mid-voyage chats. Youthies are now sleeping, waiting for their anchor watches to begin.
Jaz – Hey family, I can’t wait to see you, sea sickness caught me out today. I love you all. x
Sylvie – Hey guys, missing you lots! I didn’t know sea sickness affected me until now. See you soon.
Lots of love,
Jaz & Sylvie.
