Day 8 – Command Day!!

After 8 days of broken sleep, crew bonding, and life changing experiences, the Youthies were finally prepared to take charge of the Young Endeavour.
With “walking on sunshine” filling the wet and drizzling morning, Captain Locke received the tricorn of triumph, and the telescope of knowledge from Captain Loops and the Youthie crew officially took command of the ship. A long-awaited holiday for the staffies entailed the Youthies charting and sailing their way back down the gold coast to Tangalooma through our roughest seas yet and hard, heavy rain.
As the command team spent the morning running around, the rest of the crew took part in what felt like two hours of short naps, fat chats on the upper deck, and intense uno games, won mostly by ginger 2 (Ross).
The slow start to the morning picked up shortly after lunch (cooked by our amazing Master chefs) as the sailors started our long list of side quests, notably including crafting a hammock with ropes and knots able to support the entire youth crew, making a shanty worthy of the high seas and our resident stand-up comedian, Jaymie, wiping the floor with his dad jokes to be judged by Sean.
All was not over for the staff, however, as their “peaceful” vacation was abruptly interrupted by a spin off Ropies Race involving chugging glasses of straight cordial, locating lines around the ship and speed running some knots. Before the games could continue, a harsh burst rain swept everyone off their feet, causing a part 2 to be held tomorrow so stay updated!
With anchors up at 1900, the youthies prepare the ship in their red and neon yellow rain jackets to set sail down the coast utilising the harsh winds of the incoming storm. Climbing masts, setting sails, tacking the ship and tying everything down, the youthies have their work cut out for them but hell yeah.
Much love from Gypsy and the Gingers (Ruby and Ross)
