Day 7, Assessments, Games and Elections
2, 6, Hey!!! This Captains log is coming to you from Erin and Typhoon,
Wow, today was an interesting day. Overnight we conducted a BearEx which required us to set a sail that we haven’t seen before. Each watch had a task of completing a different sail on within a given timeframe. It was a challenge and a half, but with the help of our watches, and effective communication, we were able to achieve the “impossible.”
7 AM, Captain Leups assessed us on Setting and Furling; each watch was tasked to set and furl two sails – the fore staysail and the main staysail. First was blue watch, then red, and to finish the morning off was white. It seemed more daunting that it was but BLUE WATCH came through and destroyed the challenge with no problems.
We then went to the beach and played some crazy games including “Sarah’s Game” which was where you had to get the ball to your team on the other side but without using your hands and you could not all do the same thing. Then there was “Floody’s game” which was soccer but every time your team scored the player that scored had to go cheer. Then we played “Matty’s game” which is where all the people had to hold on to and lean back with a rope while another player walked on it. Good fun and a chance for our suitability youthies to take charge of the group and get involved.
The big event for the evening was Command Day Elections in preparation for Command Day tomorrow. The Youth Crew self elected their positions for Command Day tomorrow. Elections were as follows; Captain – Harry, Sail Master – Theo, Watch Officer – Campbell, Watch Leaders – Nivy, Kat and Bucky, Master Chefs – Nick, Ray, and Izzy and finally the Morale Officers where Izzy and Erin. Congrats to all the people who were selected and to all the people that tried as well. Success tomorrow will require us to all work together to overcome the Command Day Challenge. We find out tomorrow what that is – wish us luck!!
Big shoutout to Steve our amazing Chefo!
